Here comes the sun!

Vivaldi dedicated his Opus 9 'La Cetra' to Emperor Charles VI — a striking gesture likening the Emperor to Apollo, the god of music and sun, whose ancient attribute ‘the lyre’ was a gift from Mercury. The lyre eventually gave way to more modern instruments, such as the violin: Vivaldi was one of the greatest violinists of his day. Celebrating the 300th anniversary of ‘La Cetra’, Adrian Chandler performs Vivaldi’s violin concertos with La Serenissima – the group that’s been “Whipping up a storm with Vivaldi” (The Telegraph) since 1994 - in Liverpool, London and Wells.
