Contented Rest

FIGURE is joined by countertenor Hugh Cutting in the first in a series of concerts of early and contemporary music led by its Artistic Director Frederick Waxman. Centred around Bach’s cantata Vergnügte Ruh, beliebte Seelenlust, BWV 170, the concert will feature two world premieres, commissioned by FIGURE, from Jonathan Dove CBE and Freya Waley-Cohen. FIGURE's previous performances of baroque and contemporary music had the ensemble described in The Guardian as ‘unequivocally impressive, its sound invigorating, its commitment absolute’, and their forthcoming debut album, Vivaldi’s iconic Four Seasons recomposed as a percussion concerto with virtuoso soloist James Larter, to be released with Delphian Records in March, was called ‘high-risk, high reward’ in The Times. Soloist Hugh Cutting is the winner of the 2025 International Opera Rising Star Award and the first countertenor to win the Kathleen Ferrier Award.
