Chelys Consort of Viols explores the evolution of French consort music through the ordered elegance of the French palace garden. This programme invites audiences into a musical landscape shaped by the symmetry, balance and refinement of the jardin à la française, drawing fascinating parallels between the aesthetic ideals of the garden and the musical language of the period. At the heart of the programme is a new work, Les Jardins de Versailles, composed for Chelys by Matthew Brown. Blending historical repertoire with a contemporary response, the concert offers a journey through the sounds, spaces and enduring beauty of the French Baroque.
