We perform Bach’s E-flat Magnificat in London and Nottingham, 300 years after its composition. This programme represents the first in a series of BACH300 concerts over the coming years, each marking the tercentenary of JS Bach’s major compositions during his time as Kantor in Leipzig. The programme is centred around his Magnificat in E-flat BWV243a with Christmas interpolations (which will be seasonal!) - we take the opportunity here, exactly 300 years on, to explore two other top-drawer vocal works which Bach wrote just a few months before the Magnificat: the cantatas O Ewigkeit, du Donnerwort BWV 60 and Wachet! Betet! Betet! Wachet! BWV 70.
