Following the success of our first album, ‘Sweet Stillness’ with Mary Bevan, we are thrilled to be joining forces once again for our next recording project together: The Art of Obligato. Showcasing the expressive and creative technique of obligato throughout Bach’s works, this album focuses specifically on his cantatas, which are so renowned for the mirroring of vocal and instrumental lines. We have created a vibrant and varied programme featuring a number of movements from Bach's time in Weimar and Leipzig, all linked by the common thread of a violin line running seamlessly throughout. These will be interspersed with 2 sonatas for violin and obligato keyboard played by Davina Clarke and Tom Foster. The ensemble is joined for this album by Hugh Cutting (alto) and Nick Pritchard (tenor), to showcase a selection of Bach’s finest works.
