MANCHESTER BAROQUE

Neptune and Amymone: Musick in Manchester 1744/45

Image-empty-state.png
The survival of concert programmes from the first half of the 18th century is rare in the UK. For Manchester, the records of the 1744/45 subscription series are unique. Through the research of Dr Pauline Nobes, Manchester Baroque’s Artistic Director, the ensemble uncovers a wealth of archive treasures from the city’s own collections. Our reconstruction of an original concert from 19th February 1745 includes the extraordinary Cantata Neptune and Amymone by neglected English composer George Hayden (d.1722), alongside other works from Manchester’s collections by Geminiani, Corelli and Handel.
