In 1701 composer John Weldon won the ‘Musick Prize’, a competition to set William Congreve’s libretto dramatizing the classical myth of the Judgment of Paris. Remaining in manuscript and only recently published, Weldon’s opera has been professionally performed only once since 1702 and has been largely overlooked over the past 300 years.

Cambridge Handel Opera and the Academy of Ancient Music seek to redress this by performing the work and creating a world premiere recording. The performance will take place at Trinity College, Cambridge, on Saturday 28 October, followed by the recording. Soloists include Anna Dennis and Helen Charlston.
