Jephthah’s Daughter is a ground-breaking reinterpretation of the biblical story of Jephthah’s daughter from British/Australian composer Luke Styles, commissioned by acclaimed vocal and instrumental ensemble La Nuova Musica. This vivid retelling will explore female empowerment to ensure the work resonates with modern audiences, with libretto by Jessica Walker. Styles will draw inspiration from Carissimi's Jephte, employing similar vocal and instrumental forces to create a piece that explores a contemporary baroque style. The world premiere will be performed by La Nuova Musica and a stellar cast, conducted by David Bates, at Wigmore Hall in June 2024 with further performances to follow.
