RAUTIO PIANO TRIO

The Dawn of the Piano Trio: Beethoven’s Building Blocks

Image-empty-state.png
Three concerts will chart the evolution of the piano trio, from its emergence in the mid-18th century through to Beethoven’s complex and mature realisation of the genre. Our programmes will feature rarely performed works by JC ‘London' Bach, CPE Bach and Clementi, alongside the better known trios by Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven. Our aim is to illuminate Beethoven’s trios in the context of works by other composers, preceding and contemporaneous, exploring how his ground-breaking writing would have been perceived at the time.

The performances will take place at the Kino Teatr in Hastings. They will incorporate an ‘Artists in conversation’ event, during which we will talk about our approach to the music on historical instruments and answer questions from the audience. We are in the midst of our long-term project to record the complete cycle of Beethoven piano trios on period instruments. The three Kino concerts will be an integral part of this project, coinciding with our recording of the second volume for Resonus Classics.
