Playing cards have been used throughout history to entertain and to educate resulting in an extraordinary array of playing card packs with different designs. For this project, Ensemble Augelletti will connect 13 pieces of music to 13 different historical playing cards (one for each number in a suit) and release a live video performance of each piece along with a conversation about the historical/cultural context of the playing card. The videos will be broadcast weekly from the start of January until the end of March and include repertoire by Locke, Handel, Telemann, Couperin and a new commission for the ensemble.
