Music for the 18th Century Music Room

Image-empty-state.png
“With my slow music I soothe sorrows and bitter cares; I celebrate with joyful and pleasing sounds.” Despite this Latin motto inscribed on its case, the chamber organ in the music room at Kenwood House in Hampstead has lain silent for a decade. Saraband and organist Timothy Roberts will be making it sing again in their series of concerts this summer. Thanks to a grant from Continuo Foundation the public can hear this organ and a similar one at Kew Palace in six free chamber concerts accessible to all. This grant has enabled us to offer concerts to visitors of Kenwood House and Kew Palace including children and people who would not normally go to concerts. It is a joy for us to bring people together in these heritage spaces for a shared experience of music fulfilling the original intentions of these 18th century music rooms.
