Title

RAUTIO PIANO TRIO

Patronage: Martines to Beethoven’s Archduke

Image-empty-state.png
This programme explores how chamber music was created and sustained in Enlightenment Vienna. Beethoven’s Archduke Trio reflects the aristocratic patronage of Archduke Rudolph, which enabled artistic ambition on a grand scale. In contrast, the music of Marianne Martines, celebrated in her lifetime but rarely performed today, represents a model rooted in salon culture, private patronage and domestic music-making. The concerts feature Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven and JC Bach, alongside newly created transcriptions of two keyboard sonatas by Martines and her only surviving Symphony in C. The programme is part of the Rautio’s project to record the complete cycle of Beethoven trios.
