Our project, an artistic and educational collaboration with the South Africa-based Buskaid Soweto String Ensemble, has grown from the shared passion of both ensembles for high-quality historically informed performance. With the young musicians of the Buskaid ensemble, we will give two concerts featuring a mixed programme of favourites for recorder and strings: Bach, Telemann, Purcell, and Rameau, alongside a Symphonie by Joseph Bologne, a recent composition by Julian Grant, inspired by Ignatius Sancho’s collections of Country Dances, and township Kwela. Our London concert will be filmed for later release on our YouTube channel for a global audience to enjoy.
