IL PIANTO DI MARIA is a multimedia collaboration between period instrument orchestra Old Street Band and it’s Resident Creative Rebecca van Beeck, of two rarely heard depictions of the Virgin Mary for voice and orchestra, by two eighteenth century composers, one celebrated, one unknown. Two different, yet mirroring images of the Virgin Mary, are presented in a striking display of virtuosity, flamboyance and invention, in parallel with a newly edited version of van Beeck’s exquisite film, made in response to the 2020 pandemic.
