NEWE VIALLES
Newe Vialles: Restoration

We will record a new album of Restoration music for two viols and continuo. This project explores the years after the Restoration of Charles II, recreating the music that viol players in the 1660s might have enjoyed. Our programme includes duos by Locke, Jenkins and Simpson which we will develop into consort pieces by adding theorbo and guitar continuo, alongside divisions and dances from contemporary manuscripts, and arrangements of songs and dances by Lanier, Draghi, Purcell, and Blow. Our sound-world is enhanced by two wonderful historical viols by John Pitts (1675) and Edward Lewis (1703).
