Manchester Baroque presents Fantasticarie, a bold project celebrating the dazzling invention of early 17th-century Italian chamber music. Inspired by Castaldi’s Capricci… e fantasticarie, the project highlights the dramatic, capricious style of this rarely performed repertoire. Led by Pauline Nobes and Paula Chateauneuf, it features Uccellini, Fontana, Marini, Castello, Piccinini and Castaldi. With works for three violins and theorbo, plus solo theorbo works, audiences will discover the theatrical freedom of Seicento Italy. Alongside the concert, Manchester Baroque joins forces with the Olympias Foundation to deliver workshops to disadvantaged young musicians, introducing them to this extraordinary style.
