Kuhnau Christmas Cantatas

300 years after his death, it’s high time to bring the 16th Leipzig ‘Thomas cantor’ out of the eclipsing shadow of his well-known successor. Thanks to the pioneering work of scholar and countertenor David Erler, his sparkling vocal works are ever-more widely available. Solomon’s Knot give three of them their first UK performance in York, continuing their exploration of Kuhnau which includes a live CD recording of his Magnificat. With festive trumpets, horns, and drums, these cantatas for Christmas and New Year are real crackers.
