MANCHESTER BAROQUE

Manchester’s Own – Spring Flower Collection

Image-empty-state.png
‘Spring Flower Collection’ continues Manchester Baroque’s commitment to tracing Manchester’s cultural history. The Newman Flower collection at Manchester’s Henry Watson Library is a heritage asset, containing a wealth of historically significant manuscripts. One of these is a set of part-books to Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, once belonging to the great Roman patron, Ottoboni. They predate the Le Cene version published in Vivaldi’s lifetime and contain minor but significant differences. ‘Spring’ from the Seasons, is framed in this concert by other works from the collection, including Vivaldi’s flute concerto ‘Il Gardellino’, and Handel’s Concerto Grosso Op.3/3, once belonging to Charles Jennens.
