FRETWORK
Fretwork will explore 17th century musical and political turmoil, including music by John Milton (senior), Leonora Duarte, Matthew Locke, Henri Dumont, with poetry by John Milton (junior) and the philosophy of Baruch Spinoza.

The programme is a combination of words and music centred on the seven Sinfonias of Leonora Duarte. She is the only female composer known to have written viol consort music: she lived in Antwerp in the middle of the 17th century where her family were jewellery merchants. Our programme traces the connections between the Duarte family and scientific, political, intellectual & literary figures in their circle including Milton and Spinoza.
