Ensemble Hesperi presents From Caledonia to the Capital, featuring two concerts (one live, one streamed) and a related educational workshop, delivered online, showcasing chamber music and song by Scottish eighteenth-century composers, whose vibrant style takes inspiration from the traditional music of Scotland.

The project centres around Scottish composer James Oswald (1710-1769), whose artistic success culminated in a thriving career in mid-eighteenth century London. Each programme will feature his rarely performed songs for solo voice and continuo, alongside airs from Oswald’s astonishing collection, Airs for the Seasons - a set of 96 short miniatures, each depicting a flower or plant.
