This project consists of two parts. The first is a mini-tour featuring a programme inspired by the painter Thomas Gainsborough (1727–1788), an avid amateur musician known for hosting musical gatherings. It includes works by Johann Christian Bach (1735–1782), the 'London Bach'; fellow German Carl Friedrich Abel (1723–1787); and Italians Felice Giardini (1716–1796) and Valentino Nicolai (fl. 1775–1798). These performances will take place in London, Hampshire and Devon. The second part culminates in recording six harpsichord trios by Valentino Nicolai, never before recorded and preserved in the British Library.
