Dialogue Viols

Before the Guillotine

Image-empty-state.png
Dialogue Viols with Ibrahim Aziz and Lynda Sayce will make a unique recording and present concerts celebrating the Pardessus de viole, Quinton and Viola da gamba in the period before the French Revolution. As musical taste and fashion changed in 18th century France, the viol had to alter in order to survive. The smallest member of the viol family, the pardessus de viole developed into the quinton, a new hybrid viol/violin, so that viol players could enjoy the now fashionable music of the violin. Our programme is played on original instruments and echoes with the sonority of time; it offers a glimpse into the musically rich world of composers Hotteterre, Dandrieu, Corelli, Le Clair, Marais and Forqueray.
