PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Mozartists are planning a professionally-filmed performance of Mozart Divertimenti for Wind Sextet, featuring our regular team of wind players, as part of our ongoing MOZART 250 series. These rarely-programmed works were composed between July 1775 and August 1776, and reveal a new, quintessentially Mozartian sound-world – full of both rustic charm and profound serenity – which over the following few years would lead to the celebrated Serenades K.375 and K.388 and the great Divertimento K.361 for 12 winds and double-bass.

The project will incorporate a live performance to a public audience, to which we will also invite wind students from the London conservatoires, before the filming sessions the following day. The film will be pitched to online streaming music festivals and specialised streaming channels first, and then subsequently released free online and available to all.

The Mozartists’ MOZART 250 project follows the chronological trajectory of Mozart’s life, work and influences, presenting 250th anniversary performances of many works by Mozart and his contemporaries. The films from this performance will be incorporated into our new MOZART 250 website sharing research and recordings to a wide public audience, with plans for the website to go live in 2027. In confidence, we are currently building the site in collaboration with Mark Allen Group, who are generously offering in-kind technical support. Founded in 1985, This global company is family-owned and recognised for its outstanding multi-platform digital and print media, powerful insights, innovative exhibitions and events, prestigious awards and informative conferences. https://www.markallengroup.com/who-we-are/

Their involvement reflects their enthusiasm for the concept and recognition of the value of our work. Through this partnership, we will benefit from their considerable digital expertise and vast publishing experience, ensuring a robust and user-friendly platform. In addition, they will support the marketing and audience development of the site through their established publications, Gramophone and Classical Music Magazine, substantially increasing the project’s reach.

The works that we intend to feature within the concert and filming sessions are:

Divertimento for wind sextet in F major, K.213 (July 1775)
Divertimento for wind sextet in B flat major, K.240 (January 1776)
Divertimento for wind sextet in F major, K.253 (August 1776)

And also, if time, funding and stamina permit:
Divertimento for wind sextet in E flat major, K.252/240a (early 1776)

In the performance and, time-permitting, on the films, players will introduce the repertoire and talk about their period-instruments and explain how they are different to the modern versions.

IMPACT OF GRANT

A grant would be essential in enabling this project to proceed. We can only create new work when external support is secured, and this project is entirely dependent on raising the necessary funding. The grant would contribute to the company’s long-term sustainability by enabling us to engage new and existing audiences through live performance and film. Previous Continuo-supported chamber films have achieved significant international reach and opened new opportunities for the ensemble.
