PROJECT DESCRIPTION
This project is the debut EP recording of our group Lowe Ensemble, centred on Baroque repertoire from Spain or directly influenced by Spanish Culture. The programme we want to record is linked directly to our roots as a family of musicians brought up in Spain.
We plan to work with recording engineer John Croft, with whom we have previously collaborated on the recordings of ‘Fandango’ and ‘With Darkness Deep’. These experiences were artistically and technically extremely positive, and we are delighted to continue this collaboration. John Croft has provided a detailed quote for the recording sessions, which is included in the accompanying budget. We also plan to work once again with Danny Murphy, theorbo player and regular guest artist with us, whose contribution to the ensemble has always been the best. Also, we want to include a historic percussionist, adding percussion instruments that we believe are historical in this repertoire and backed with research.
We also want to add a video production element to the EP to have also a visual impact to the repertoire and will work with cinematographer and musician Inigo Lowe, sibling of the Ensemble, with whom we have had enormous success in previous video recording projects in the past such as 'FANDANGO' and 'With Darkness Deep'. This video content has proved to reach a large number of audiences across the internet, meeting one of our goals which is to spread baroque music everywhere and has pushed non-regular music listeners to have a new interest in baroque music.
In the final months of 2025, we did a UK tour supported by the Continuo Foundation, presenting a Spanish and Iberian-inspired Baroque programme. The project was highly successful, and the choice of repertoire was so impactful and beautiful that we immediately felt the urge of designing and developing this project. Our audiences where very intrigued and impressed with our Spanish Baroque programme, which is not very well known in the UK, and asked us when we were intending on recording it! The works we now propose to record are mostly from that tour programme, pieces we have arranged ourselves for the nature of our ensemble. Here is a list (not yet definitive) of some of the pieces we intend to record:
Jean-Baptiste Lully (1632–1687)“Sé que me muero”, from Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme, LWV 43
Henri de Bailly (c.1560–1637): Yo soy la locura
José Marín (1618–1699): Ojos, pues me desdeñáis
Santiago de Murcia (1673–1739): Grabe
Mateo Flecha “El viejo” (1481–1553): Florida estava la rosa
A. Scarlatti (1660–1725): Fandango
Recording this EP will allow us to consolidate the artistic outcomes of that tour and it will also provide us CDs that we can use to present our work to promoters, venues, festivals, and audiences, and to carry our music with us as the ensemble continues to develop. As an emerging group, having a first professional recording is a crucial step in establishing our profile and supporting future opportunities.

IMPACT OF GRANT
The grant would enable us to permanently document a body of work developed meticulously over the past year. This EP will be our first professional CD recording, consolidating our artistic identity and presenting ourselves to the world.
The recording will be of great use for future applications to festivals, venues, and funding bodies. It will also play a key role in our marketing and audience development, allowing us to share our work both physically and digitally.
