PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Fractals are naturally occurring, self-similar patterns that occur in nature from crystals, DNA and cloud formations, to mathematics and even time itself. This evocative concept of smaller elements not only making up a whole, but in fact themselves being the whole has striking parallels in art and literature. Can we apply this idea to music?
Liturina presents Fractals, a concert where you will find an ensemble within an ensemble, music within music. Taking the concerto grosso structure as its inspiration, we will examine the musical, metaphorical and even political ideas that this fascinating programme presents.
With Liturina as the ensemble's nucleus, the larger ensemble will draw on relationships established across previous projects, bringing together the best young musicians in London. Exploring works from Muffat to Corelli and culminating in Bach’s glorious second Brandenburg concert, Fractals is designed to intrigue, captivate and inspire.
Liturina will return once again to its stunning London residence, St Clement Dane’s, and appear at Manchester University’s Martin Harris Centre, developing their connection to the north of the UK through exciting and original programmes.

IMPACT OF GRANT
Developing relationships with other young musicians provides huge musical/artistic benefits, as well as invaluable experience with fixing musicians, liaising with venues/directors and creating schedules, budgets and travel plans.
As well as raising the profile of St Clement Danes as an exciting musical hub, we are passionate about expanding our audience by taking our music outside London, bringing unique and accessible concerts to audiences across the UK and abroad.
