'Tom & Will'

In 2023 we commemorate the 400th anniversaries of the death of two of the great English composers of the ‘Golden Age: William Byrd and Thomas Weelkes. They were very different characters and wrote very different music, but they both wrote elegies on fellow composers - Byrd for his teacher, friend and collaborator Thomas Tallis, and Weelkes for his great predecessor in the realm of the English madrigal, Thomas Morely.

So we have asked two eminent composers to write laments on the deaths of these two composers for the combined forces of the two ensembles - Sir James Macmillan and Roderick Williams. The whole programme is to be recorded in 2022 and released to combine with a tour in 2023 itself.
