PROJECT DESCRIPTION

We would like to apply for a grant to help us pay musicians’ fees for two days of recording 16th and 17th century music and song for the Greensleeves Project www.greensleevesproject.uk - an interdisciplinary collaboration looking at early modern clothing through musical sources, and creating an accessible resource of videos, recordings, texts, images and reconstructed clothing, supported by the Society of Antiquaries. We began with the 16th Century ballad of Greensleeves, creating videos and documentaries which have been seen by over 400,000 viewers, but have now identified over 100 songs, dances and instrumental solos (some well known, but mostly little known repertoire of good musical value), and would like to start to record these. It’s a good way to bring early music to a different audience.
[We hope to create a concert tour of this repertoire later in 2026/2027]
Two days recording in St John’s Wood Church, with Sam Stadlen as sound engineer and videographer.
